I remember seeing a report on TV a while back, about a council who had been told by government that they were required to have a certain number of these small cycle paths (something to do with lining the cyclists up to launch across the road/dual carriageway), only the council in question didn’t have a clue in what they were doing in stalled them backwards. So cyclist were faced with a very sharp 90 degree bend followed by a nice lead into the lane they’d just come from. Craziness.

Seen on my Flickr home page. (?)
isn’t there a shorter one on nursery lane?
will snap it in the next day or so, and we can compare!
What’s the point of that then?!!!!!
hmmm, how stupid!
haa so you found the best cycle path this side of york road…everytime i rode past i laughed so hard, i wonder what the builders thought when they were told to do this..
kierentc – I think you’re right. I’ve seen some real short ones. I think there are some about three foot long on Stainbeck lane as well!
I’m not suprised to here that. Things are just mad these days with rules, regs, health and safety nonsesne e.tc..
Thanks Kieren. I shall have to look out for that.
I’ve no idea lol
Indeed.
The mind boggles for sure!
My eyes are peeled.
Cheers!

Are they going to fix it?

It’s called a "jug handle" and it’s not for cycles going straight ahead, but for those turning right, as it takes then away from traffic and then back at right angles. I think the idea is you cross over the the "facility" in the middle, but GOK where you go from there!
