What Is the Name of the Bicycle Part That You Use to Hold a Regular Bike in Place?

by Bicycle Parts on April 19, 2011

I am seeking the name (and location to purchase this item online if you know) of this item. It holds a regular bicycle upright so that you can use it indoors as a recumbant bike. What is this thing called? Thanks.
Thanks, that is what I meant. I don't know what everything is called obviously. Thank you both for your answers.

Recubant? Or do you mean exercise bike? I think you’re looking for and indoor trainer. There are several different kinds; some work on magnetic resistance, some on hydraulic fluid, some on air resistance. I have one that works on centrifugal force. I’ve had it for a few years and it works great. Check it out at http://www.1upUSA.com. The others you can check out at your local bike shop,or at http://www.nashbar.com or http://www.performancebike.com.

They all work basically the same; the rear wheel attaches to the trainer and the friction of the back wheel on a metal drum helps create the resistance. It’s best to use a rear tire with smooth tread to minimize noise.

It’s called a trainer, and prices range from about $150.00 to $1,000.00. Follow the link – http://www.performancebike.com/shop/sub_cat.cfm?subcategory_id=4120 Most of your local bike shops will carry these. I suggest a fluid trainer over a magnetic one.
